Information and Data Security Unit (SID)

The Information and Data Security Unit advises the Rectorate and the various institutions of the University of Bonn on information and IT security and data protection issues.

Its objectives include the continuous improvement of information security, the development and improvement of an information management system and the training of employees in IT security-related topics.

Information- and IT Security

Information security aims to protect all information (e.g. research data, exam results, etc.), regardless of whether it is stored in analog or digital form or as knowledge in people's heads.
In particular, the confidentiality, integrity and availability of information should be ensured.

One area of information security is IT security.

Data Protection

Data protection focuses on the protection of personal data.

The Data Protection Officer is the contact person for all questions regarding the handling of personal data at the University of Bonn. She advises all members of the university as well as any person affected by the university's data processing, works free of instructions and is bound to secrecy. The aim of data protection is to process personal data lawfully, for a specific purpose and with a high level of security, while protecting the rights of all data subjects.

Business Continuity Management

Business Continuity Management (BCM) aims to minimize the impact of potential disruptive events on the university. With appropriate preparation, it ensures that business operations are not interrupted and can continue at an emergency level.
